Explore the Hidden Secrets of Art at Joan Barbarà's Atelier

Welcome to Studio 46 Barcelona, an atelier and private gallery founded in 1974 by Catalan master engraver and artist Joan Barbarà. Located in the Gràcia district, it is a cornerstone of Barcelona’s artistic heritage and one of the best-kept secrets in the city. Our space has hosted over 300 artists, including masters such as Joan Miró, Antoni Tapies, Salvador Dali, and Richard Hamilton, and contemporary talents like Lorenzo Quinn, Juliana Plexxo, Om Barbara and JJ Walker. A welcome drink will be waiting for you while I share an overview of Studio 46 and its significance and fascinating history, starting with the legacy of Barbarà and his collaborations with many iconic 20th-century artists. We’ll explore the workshop, where you’ll learn about various engraving techniques and see some of the incredible works created in this historic space. Finally, we’ll visit the private gallery, still a working studio for many contemporary artists, who continue to reinterpret and innovate engraving and mixed media in exciting ways. BONUS: 100% of your tour fee will be credited towards any artwork in the studio, including original engravings from one of our featured artists. In this guided sketching session, you’ll learn to observe, interpret, and sketch the basilica’s intricate details while enjoying a creative break from sightseeing. • We’ll gather at a scenic spot with the perfect view of La Sagrada Familia. I’ll introduce key architectural sketching techniques—covering composition, perspective, and shading—so you can approach your drawing with confidence. • With step-by-step guidance, you’ll outline the basilica’s iconic towers, facades, and intricate details. I’ll show you how to capture depth and structure, ensuring your sketch reflects Gaudí’s stunning vision. • Once the structure takes shape, I’ll help you enhance your drawing using fine black ink for definition. If you’d like, you can also add subtle color touches to help your artwork pop. • We’ll wrap up with a short sharing session, where you can showcase your sketch, ask questions, and receive personalized tips to refine your technique. You’ll leave with a hand-drawn postcard of Barcelona’s most famous landmark, a souvenir crafted by your own hands. As you focus on lines, shadows, and details, you’ll see the world through an artist’s eyes and hopefully develop a deeper appreciation for Gaudí’s masterpiece in the process.

Step into the workshop of a master shoemaker, where you’ll get an insider’s view of this meticulous craft and learn how to apply artisan techniques to caring for the shoes in your own closet. • We’ll begin with an exclusive tour of my workshop, where I’ll show you the tools, leathers, and techniques I use to create bespoke shoes. I’ll explain each stage of the process, from selecting premium leather to hand-stitching and finishing. • I’ll then lead you through a masterclass in polishing high-quality shoes. You’ll learn how to clean and condition leather footwear and achieve a mirror shine. • While you practice, I’ll share stories about Spain’s rich shoemaking tradition, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about my process and products. Join us for a unique experience at Montserrat, one of Spain’s most iconic and sacred sites. A place of pilgrimage for millions, this national park is known for its stunning rock formations and its Basilica and Monastery, home to the revered Black Madonna. We’ll meet at the center of Barcelona, and from there, embark on a private, air-conditioned vehicle—no crowded public transport—making our way up the mountain. Montserrat’s name, meaning "saw mountain," comes from its distinctive peaks, and we’ll enjoy breathtaking views as we drive. Unlike most tours, we offer early access to the monastery before the crowds arrive. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a 45-min tour, revealing Montserrat’s history and secrets. For the 9:30 am tour, enjoy the special performance of the Boy's Choir. After the tour, you’ll have 2 hours of free time to explore.
