Learn the secrets behind Toronto's famous signs

Signs are landmarks that are often just as memorable as the businesses they advertise. Join a local architect for a 3.4-kilometer (2-mile) walking tour of some of Toronto’s most famous signs, from flashy neon signs to unique street signs. We’ll discuss how local laws and Special Sign Districts influence the look and feel of the city you see around you. • We’ll start by visiting two recently restored neon signs that adorn historic music venues and learn about the famous acts who performed there. • Next, we'll explore Chinatown and discuss the distinctive style of signs that have come to define this neighbourhood. • We'll continue along Dundas Street where you'll spot some smaller signs off the beaten path and hear about the colourful stories behind them. • Then, we’ll wander down to Nathan Phillips Square, where you'll have the opportunity to take a photo with the iconic TORONTO sign and learn how it came to be. You’ll see a different side of Toronto on this walk and develop a new appreciation for the urban environment. I hope it will inspire you to keep looking up at the signs around you as you explore this dynamic city!

At Soul Chocolate, you’ll step into a working factory and explore the process behind handcrafted, small-batch chocolate, from sourcing ethical cacao to tempering and molding your own creations. • We start by explaining chocolate’s journey from bean to bar, exploring cacao origins, ethical sourcing, and the roasting process. • You’ll grind and refine cacao, transforming raw beans into liquid chocolate while learning how techniques impact flavour. • Next, you’ll temper and taste, experimenting with textures and origins to understand what makes certain chocolate stand out. • Finally, create your own chocolate, selecting your own toppings and finishing touches. • You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for chocolate-making, hands-on skills, and your own delicious treat. • Most important of all, you will learn while having a lot of fun!.

Crochet and knitting workshop at a Bloor West art studio

Join me, a fashion designer, for a hands-on crochet and knitting workshop at my studio, HotPot Variety, to make your own sustainable piece of clothing—no previous experience necessary! • Hear about the history of crochet, yarn, and the bohemian culture that underpins Toronto’s history from the 1960s and ’70s to the present-day urban art of yarnbombing. • I'll walk you through the techniques for crocheting a seasonally inspired accessory, whether it’s a vibrant T-shirt design for summer or a hoodie balaclava for winter. • Get crocheting! Select from an abundance of materials and yarn colors and patterns to create your one-of-a-kind design. I’ll guide you through the creative process and provide feedback along the way. You’ll leave with your unique handcrafted piece, the pattern for your item to continue crocheting at home, and my recommendations for further exploration of the neighborhood.

After picking you up at your downtown core Toronto Airbnb, or other convenient location, we will start your adventure to Niagara Falls. Along the way we will stop at picturesque waterfalls, an iconic Canadian cafe chain, and an award-winning winery. During short walks along tree lined paths at these smaller falls, you’ll learn about the geology of the area followed by a stop at a coffee shop chain that has become part of the Canadian identity. Then, we’ll hop in the car and continue to Niagara's wine region, where we will stop for a tasting (including ICE wine) at one of Niagara Regions most award-winning wineries. After a delicious sit-down lunch, we go to the world-famous Niagara Falls where you will bathe in the mist from the Falls as we walk along the rim of the Niagara Gorge. We will have more than enough time for guests to participate in one of these optional self-led activities: the historic Niagara Boat Cruise (April to November) or The Journey Behind the Falls when the boat is not available (December to April) Following our visit to the upper edge of the mighty Horseshoe Falls we will return direct to Toronto. If you do not see a preferred date on the calendar, please request a date that is suitable for you and your group. Feel free to ASK me any questions. You will also see landmarks such as Harbourfront, Brookfield Place & The Entertainment District. The walk ends at the St. Lawrence Market, considered one the world's great food markets, so bring an appetite. The tour does go into Toronto's PATH an above and below ground labyrinth used by thousands of people daily. Bring your camera, your walking shoes and your questions! Access & Availability: On this tour, we will enter privately held buildings. For security reasons suitcases/luggage are not permitted in these buildings. First up on the tour is a bird’s eye view of the Falls from the observation deck of the Skylon Tower. Upon arrival, an elevator will whisk you 520 feet (160 meters) above the ground where you will be treated to amazing, breath-taking views of Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and American Falls, as well as Niagara River. See what life is like behind the falls with the next stop on the tour. The Journey Behind the Falls gives a unique perspective of Niagara Falls. Instead of seeing it from the front, you go through a series of tunnels that allow you to hear and feel the Falls. After taking in spectacular views, you will have some free time to visit the lookout point along the brink of Horseshoe Falls. Here you will be able to capture amazing photos of the Falls. Lastly, the Hornblower Cruise (seasonal) where you will get up close and personal with the Falls. This boat tour takes you out onto the gorge. You will get so close to the falls that you can feel the spray of water on your face. -We will pick up guests at any Airbnb in Niagara Falls, Canada. -Please note the Hornblower boat cruise is seasonal and ending this year on September 20, with operating on select days Fri-Mon until the end of October. The Greg Frewin Theatre and the Butterfly Conservatory will be the replacement on days the boat is not operating.
